The Amos Brothers Dairy is located on 200 acres along Santa Rosa Creek, in Sonoma County, CA. Brothers, Matt and Greg (Cubby) Amos are the third generation to tend to the 200 cow dairy.
Founded by Matt and Cubby’s grandfather, Glenn Hansen, who was born in Canada and first traveled to California at 18 to visit one of his sisters. While only planning on a two week visit, he stayed for six months and would later return for good. In 1946, Glenn married a local Petaluma girl from a prominent dairy family, Elsie Maffia. In 1970, Glenn and Elsie moved from their first dairy in Petaluma to the current dairy, which was first settled by homesteaders who came by ox-pulled wagons in 1854. The patriarch of the original dairy on the property was John Steel, who along with his wife, Bellriah and eleven other relatives, are buried on a small corner plot of the dairy land known as the Steele Family Cemetery.
Glenn and Elsie have three children: Diane, Barbara, and Fred. Fred took over the dairy from Glenn in 1981 and in 2006, Glenn turned the day-to-day operations over to his sister’s sons Matt and Greg. Fred now oversees the family vineyard and Fred’s wife Anna continues to stay involved in all aspects of the dairy and the vineyard operations . Matt and Cubby Amos who both graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with degrees in Dairy Science, both live on the dairy and share management responsibilities. They are excited and proud to be a part of taking their dairy legacy forward.
Fred is proud that his family is a Clover dairy producer and feels that Clover’s North Coast Excellence Program is outstanding.
“It is nice to be connected with a company that cares about its producers and the people who work for them. Clover Stornetta is a very quality-oriented company.”
“The NCE program is based on producing top-quality milk and assuring customers that what they get is the best quality. I feel like we are partnering with a company that has the same goals as we do, which is to do the best job possible.”
